Unlike unidirectional knife gate valves, the two‑way knife gate valve features a specially designed sealing pair (typically a bidirectional floating seat or double‑sided sealing construction), ensuring zero‑leakage closure regardless of the flow direction.

Product Structure

The Two‑way Knife Gate Valve mainly consists of the following parts:

1. Body: Cast or fabricated body in gray cast iron, ductile iron, carbon steel (WCB), stainless steel (CF8/CF8M), etc. Flanged ends conforming to GB/T 9113, ANSI B16.5, EN 1092‑1, etc. Full‑bore flow path with no pockets to prevent material buildup.

2. Gate: Stainless steel (304, 316, 310S) knife‑edge gate with a sharp edge to cut through fibers and particles. The gate surface can be hardfaced with Stellite or chrome‑plated for improved wear resistance.

3. Seats: Bidirectional sealing seats – typically a floating seat or double‑sided sealing design. Seat materials include rubber (EPDM, NBR, FKM), PTFE, metal (Stellite hardfaced), or ceramic. The bidirectional design ensures pressure‑tight sealing from either direction.

4. Stem: Stainless steel trapezoidal‑thread stem, connected to the actuator at the top and the gate at the bottom, lifting and lowering the gate.

5. Bonnet: Integral or separate bonnet with internal guides to ensure vertical gate movement.

6. Packing Box: Contains PTFE or flexible graphite packing, compressed by a packing gland to prevent external leakage. Blow‑out proof construction optional.

7. Yoke: Supports the actuator.

8. Actuator: Available with handwheel (manual), bevel gear, electric, pneumatic, or hydraulic actuator.

Function

1. Bidirectional Media Shut‑Off: Regardless of which side the media enters, the floating seat is pressed against the gate by media pressure, achieving bidirectional sealing with zero leakage.

3. Self‑Cleaning Flow Path: The body flow path has no recesses. When fully open, the media can flush the interior, preventing solids accumulation.

4. Wear and Corrosion Resistance: Optional hardfaced gate, ceramic seat, or all‑stainless‑steel construction for abrasive or corrosive media.

5. Full‑Bore Low Flow Resistance: When fully open, the gate is completely out of the flow path, providing minimal pressure loss.

6. Multiple Actuator Options: Manual, electric, or pneumatic operation to meet different requirements.

7. In‑Line Maintenance: Some designs allow packing and seat replacement without removing the valve from the pipeline.

5. Installation Orientation: No strict direction limitation (bidirectional sealing), but vertical stem‑up installation is recommended.
